SLOW MEDIA WEEK
SATURDAY..
SAD NEWS
TONY SNOW passed today.
What a nothing week in local media.
As far as we can tell few were fired,
none hired and the over nights were about the
same as always.
Staff came into the 4 O clock meeting
late, claiming they had been unjustly
detained by the local authorities
with blood shot eyes and the smell of
stale ale on their unwashed bodies.
Finally new comer Zeek Ridings
suggested we talk about old radio
and suggested all of our readers
check out the radio history blog.
Larry the I.T. guy made
that "I HATE THE IDEA" face
while the rest of the staff
agreed!
SO
for your
weekend
reading pleasure
we direct you to
the above mentioned blog,
featuring Ed Rupp and others.
Several staffers worked with
Ed at WGAP in Maryville and found him
to be a very nice young man who had
the uncanny ability to lure big name
country stars on his 250 watt show.
Later we learned he lied to them by
saying WGAP was secretly owned by
Bobby Denton who used the station to
launder all the money he won playing golf.
Today Edd is working on both WBIR and the
FROG and is a part time set decorator
for FOX news. He is not the father of Beth
Haynes and his hair is real but the mustache
is reportedly fake.
For more on the RUPPER check out the "other"
blog.
Letters fluttered in from C.S. last week
on the question of local or XM radio.
Here they are!

Ed...I think you would have to be
an astronaut to do something like that OR be
endowed with a weapon of biblical porportions?

XM is a pile of horse shit. Your staff got the wrong system! Howard Stern is on mine and I can search for any song I like..try that on OLD radio!
CP and Walker should come back on as you say bird, they are better than anything on there now, ok Howard is better but he has been around much longer.
I love the picture of the MR
staff, the girl with the cig
in the back looks like someone I woke up with on Clinch Ave the morning after the Florida game. We were in her mother's bed and her mother was over at Gibbs hall spending the night!
Good old days!
Ed...For half of what Howard makes
CP and Walker would come on "the bird" and
talk dirty for hours.
Days on Clinch and White are but a fog
in the right quadrant but often
the rash comes back and the itching starts
up as a reminder!

I've had SIRIUS for over two years now (and I work in terrestrial radio!) and LOVE IT. I got it mainly for Howard Stern but would keep it if he left tomorrow.
And I just love watching the NAB pissing away all that lobbying money and running scared. They're lying in the shitty bed they made for themselves.

Ed....Think about it Frank if SIRIUS and XM get together (it will happen) and
grow much more NAB will be out of business!
Bless their hearts~

The Tripple H show is the reason I still have local radio. This is a man who knows how to get a point across without being loud or mad. He also is a good Christian and loves his family.
We need more talk shows like his, I can listen with my entire family and often do as I make them breakfast daily.
Ed...He sure does have people
tuning in and he does say he is
a believer. Wonder if there was
another local morning talk show if
he would have the same numbers?

Did the old slave holders use to cut the nuts off their slaves to make sure they didn't run away? Or was it just to make them work harder?
There was a book about old slave holders and nut cutting but I can't remember the title.
I did read it in middle school though and wrote a report on it. Got a B-

Ed....I missed that book but will
sure go over to the KKK Library and see
if they have a copy.
Republicans and Democrats alike should
unite in their efforts to keep Jessie
away from Obama's zipper!
HEY is it just me
or is THIS WOMAN kind of a
SKANK?

So sad to hear about Tony Snow. He did a wonderful job working for both presidents and could make the press laugh.
A great journalist with a good true heart is a very hard find. He will be missed!
Here is an obit that many of you may have missed:
'Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't
always fair; and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in
charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unrulychildren.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an
abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own
home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, I'm A Victim & I'm gonna sue your a_ _ .
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
Since he is no longer here to participate in our government, schools and churches, may God have mercy on us all.

ATTENTION WBIR FOLKS! ATTENTION WBIR FOLKS!
YOU NEED TO TELL YOUR FILL-IN WEATHER GIRL TO STOP SAYING ON THE AIR DURING THE DAMN 11PM NEWS THAT "SOMEBODY CALLED AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE WEATHER." SHE ALSO SAID THIS WHEN SHE FILLED IN FOR WITCHER LAST MONTH DURING YOUR 5 - 7AM NEWSCAST.
NEVER APOLOGIZE FOR YOUR ON-AIR MISTAKES, AND NEVER EVER EVER EVER CALL OUT A VIEWER OR LISTENER ON THE AIR. THAT'S A FUNDAMENTAL RULE OF THIS BUSINESS!!!!!!
PATHETIC!!!!!! AND WHEN SHE FILLS IN ON MORNINGS AGAIN, ALSO TELL HER TO QUIT FLIRTING WITH RUSSEL BIVEN, AND TELL HER NOT TO CALL ED RUPP "EDDIE POOH." THIS IS WBIR TELEVISION, NOT SOME STATION IN THE MIDDLE OF WEST VIRGINIA.
I FEEL EMBARRASSED FOR 10 AND I DON'T EVEN WORK THERE!!!!!
Hey, this weather WOMAN is better than the giggler who was aways a minute away from birth.
If this one gets her hair cut and can stop being scared she could get the
laughing woman's job!
Wonder why wbir can't hire a good looking weather WOMAN? WATE has all the real ugly men in town doing weather and WBIR cornered the women market.
I believe the weather girl was talking about a viewer who was complaing about the weather conditions...not the broadcast itself...calm down weather proffessor and take your medication
it'll be alright.
